The Adventure of a Lifetime
The United Sates Naval Sea Cadet Corps offers YOU the chance to find out if you have "what it takes" to be a part of today's military.  Our cadets find themselves training along-side real navy personnel such as submariners, pilots, surface warfare officers, doctors and corpsmen, JAG officers, and even the Navy SEALs.  And the best part?  You can even attend these trainings while still in school and even for free in some cases!

       FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

 1. Do I have to join the military?  No.You will NEVER be pressured to join the military by anyone.  We do, however, offer career counseling to cadets so that they may make the best choice for their future, whether that future includes military service, college or whatever else the cadet chooses.

2. Will I have to go overseas or to Iraq?  Never.

3. Do I get a uniform?  Yes.  Upon payment of dues and successful completion of an application, you will be issued your uniforms.

4. Do I get an ID Card like my uncle Jim, who is in the navy?  You will get an ID Card that is similar, yes!

5. When do you drill?  One weekend per month at the address above.  Drills are overnight stays and we stay in the barracks at Camp Robinson (or tents if we are camping out).

6. Can I fire a real pistol or rifle?  Yes.  Cadets are trained in the safe and proper handling of firearms by qualified military instructors.  You can even earn an EXPERT ribbon award!

7. Do I have to go to boot camp?  All cadets are required to attend a two-week orientation course during the summer. Many cadets say that it was the most fun they've ever had.

8. What about band and sports?  Given the fact that the sea cadets drill only one weekend per month, it is unlikely that it will conflict with your school schedule.  The Corps even offers a navy band camp in the summer. Remember, however, that the Sea Cadet Corps is a commitment that requires your regular and dedicated participation... just like the active military will.

9. Will this hurt my grades?  Most likely NOT!  Actually, most parents see an improvement in their cadet's grades!  Cadets are given short homework assignments and are expected to turn in their work.  When cadets fail, they are not punished, but tutored and assisted so that they might meet their goals.

10. Will people be screaming at me or treating me like "dirt" during drills?  No.  Hazing is forbidden and carries serious consequences for officers and cadets alike.

11. Okay.  Okay.  How much does it cost?  The first year's dues are only $100!  This covers administrative fees, liability insurance, ID Cards, and your uniform issue.  Since most sailors pay over $1,000 for their first uniform issue, it's a pretty good deal. Each year thereafter, the dues are approximately $54.00.  Please note that he first year's dues must be paid before uniforms will be issued.

12. Will sea cadets help me get an advanced promotion if I join the military?  In many cases, YES!  Promotions earned up the rank of E-3 are often transferable to most branches, especially the navy... of course; But only if you are committed and dedicated to your drills.  You will have to earn it.  But, however, this is not guaranteed.

13. Can I visit a drill to see if I like it before I join?  YES!  We hope you do.  There's no obligation.

14. When do you drill?  The Little Rock Division drills one weekend of per month.  Check out our schedule of upcoming drills on this site.

15. Can my friend join also?  YES!  Bring your friend with you.  If they join, you will be eligible to receive a recruiter ribbon that is worn on your uniform, and other awards.  Remember, there are no obligations and, honestly, we don't accept or retain cadets who don't really want to be a part of the Corps.
Push, pull, or drag 'em in...we are happy to have you both!

16.  I am already in JROTC at my school.  Can I do both?
Absolutely!  We typically find that although JROTC is a great course of study, it usually lacks the "enrichment" offered by the Corps.  For example, JROTC usually involves a lot of book- work and less activity.  The Sea Cadets uses its drill weekends for activities and less book-work.  It is a good supplement to JROTC.

17. Are my kids safe?  Do they do background checks on the adult leaders? Absolutely, and they are very thorough.  More importantly, the Officers of the LR Division have known each other for decades in some cases and are familiar with each other on a very personal level.  This promotes strong unit cohesion and sets a very good example of teamwork, leadership, and mutual respect for the cadets to imitate.

18.  Is it fun?  Oh, yeah!  When was the last time you snuck around at night and played tag with night-vision goggles on?  Bring your Nerf gun when you visit!
